Maintaining the School of Landscape Architecture's excellence in education and research using ongoing review, investigation and intellectual deliberations about the type of theory we use to address the particularities of the challenges landscape architecture faces today.

History and Theory of Landscape Architecture

Goal

- Support research and education at the School of Landscape Architecture (ILA) with relevant theoretical knowledge.

The aim of this discussion group is to share knowledge about landscape theory, including history, in order to update the current curricula in ILA so it can stay relevant and compete with the latest theoretical developments in landscape architecture.

Objectives

  • Review the current theoretical contributions
  • Address the suitable theoretical contributions according to all stages of education (i.e. from year one to master’s level)
  • Develop a draft programme according to points A and B to present to all ILA staff members
  • Develop a draft programme for the theory requirement for the forthcoming programme of Master's of Landscape Architecture in a Global Context
  • Keep updated with latest theoretical developments in LA through attending international conferences and networking
  • Review any new relevant books that should be recommended to be purchased by NMBU library
