What can I use this qualification for?
Highly qualified graduates in the internationally operating area of animal breeding and genetics are needed. The programme is highly relevant for students who wish to work in organizations focused in the field of sustainable animal breeding.
What will I learn?

You will bridge the gap between quantitative and molecular genetics which are needed competence in the future. You can compose your own study plan with several courses in quantitative and molecular genetics. Some recommended courses are: Molecular Biology, Models and Algorithms in Bioinformatics, Genome Analysis - Methodology, Molecular Genomics, Animal Breeding Plans, Theory and Application of Inbreeding Management.

Short description

Students who are admitted to NMBU conduct the major part of their training at NMBU. Students are recommended to spend 1 or 2 semesters at one of the partner universities. This gives them access to a broad range of subjects and experience abroad.

Partner universities: Wageningen University (WU) the Netherlands, University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU), Austria, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Sweden, Paris Agro Tech, France, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany and Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) Norway.

Students have to fulfill at least 60 ECTS at NMBU, including 30 ECTS for the master thesis. Students are recommended to choose a combination of courses within molecular genetics and quantitative genetics (statistics).
