“There is no health without mental health.” – World Health Organization. In observation of World Mental Day Health with a varied program between October 5th and 11th. We encourage everyone to take time for themselves and with others during this week. Welcome! 

NMBU Observes World Mental Health Day 2020

NMBU observes World Mental Health Day, and this year's campaign is about expressing interest and asking questions. Together with different stakeholders, we are offering a varied program lasting the entire week. We encourage you to express interest for others this week - get to know someone new, spend some time together and ask questions.

Daily Activities

  • Happiest and Most Inclusive Apartment
    NMBU students who live in a collective on or off campus can participate. Do something social, enjoyable and drug-free together that includes everyone in the apartment. Contest period: Weeks 41 and 44. Take a picture, write a short text and send these to marit.raaf@sias.no by 2 November. The happiest and most inclusive collective wins, and the prize for the most inclusive collective is a cooking class. Organizer: SiÅs

Monday, 5 October

  • Time 14-16:00 Campfire outside the Clock Building
    Informal meeting place around the campfire for students and staff. The Health Station will also attend. Light snacks will be served. Organizer: NMBU/SiT

Tuesday, 6 October

  • Time 7-9 Breakfast Beat at Samfunnet
    Tired and worn out on a Tuesday morning? Go to Samfunnet for breakfast, good music and a nice atmosphere. Join us and start the day with a bang! A light breakfast and coffee will be served. Organizer: UKA i Ås

  • Time 9-14.30 Activity Day at Eika Sports Center
    On this day, the toybox is opened, and you can borrow all kinds of equipment from Eika Sports Center. Join us and try out bocce, kubb (Norwegian garden game), curling and cornhole or borrow a slackline to use outside. We have a "playment guarantee" on this day, which means that you will always find someone to join in on the fun. We will be outside if the weather allows, otherwise we will be in the indoor hall. Ask your neighbor, classmate or someone new to come and play. It is not necessary to book a time slot, but your name and number must be registered due to infection control.   • Time 18-20 Experience Norway through Local AssociationsTime 18-20 Experience Norway through Local Associations (in Norwegian)
    Local associations will take you on an adventure to the wharf in Bergen, and you will experience the soccer spirit in Trøndelag. You will experience this and much more when the local associations make a scavenger hunt so that you can become better acquainted with the student population in Ås. Organizer: UKA i Ås

  • Time 19 UKA Review - In Full Vigor (family friendly version) (in Norwegian)
    The anniversary UKA review, "In Full Vigor", does not hold back. The review touches on everything from heaven to earth, and the review is put into high gear with satire, parodies, sketches and original music. Organizer: UKA i Ås

Wednesday, 7 October

  • Time 12:15 Competition in Law Book Throwing
    Norwegian law books are no longer printed, but why does that change anything? The tradition remains and we will compete in one of UKA's oldest activities: Competititon in Law Book Throwing. How far can you throw? Organizer: UKA i Ås

  • Time 12-17 Painting Day at the new Student Life Lounge located by the student post office
    Are you creative? We need creative souls to give character to the new meeting place on campus, the Student Life Lounge.  You can stop by if you need someone to talk to or if you just want to relax on a couch. The walls are empty, and we would like colorful paintings and drawings to make the lounge even more pleasant. Organizer: SiÅs

  • Time 17-18:00 Mastery Mile - talk by Marius Løken (in Norwegian) in the Festsalen in the Clock Building/Live Streamed (in Norwegian)
    Marius Løken survived the so called "Halloween Murder" in 2011. He miraculously recovered after being stabbed 20 times, but his life was completely changed. Marius is passionately engaged in turning his misfortunes into success, and how the small steps in the right direction contribute to the feeling of accomplishment. And what does the digital age and the associated technology do to mental health? Technology can be scary and cold, but it also provides opportunities. Marius uses his humor and energy as an important tool, and he will take us on a journey with ups and downs and laughter and tears. There is no entrance fee, but registration is necessary due to the COVID-19 situation and limited space (registration form is coming).   • Time 19 "The Painter and the Thief", Ås kino  (in Norwegian) (movie theater) - student price (kr 90,-)
     The film is about a painter who experiences a theft. During the trial, she becomes interested in the thief and asks for permission to paint him. They get to know eachother and show interest for one another. As they get to know one another, they understand that they are both struggling with psychological challenges and a friendship grows where both benefit. Before the film showing, the director, Benjamin Ree, and the thief, Karl-Bertil, will speak about the movie. In the wake of the film, Karl-Bertil has completed a degree and has gotten a handle on his life.  Organizer: Ås Municipality

Thursday, 8 October

  • Time 10-12 Academic Stand-Up with Jan-Martin Berge (Zoom) (in Norwegian)
    This is a lecture for NMBU employees. Over time Jan-Martin has developed the genre academic stand-up which has made him a much sought after and celebrated speaker with a great reputation! Jan-Martin has many years experience from private and public business and communication. He presents work environment topics with humor by sharing from personal experience.   • Time 10-12 Open Day as Ås Health Center (HSFU), Rådhusplassen 29 in Ås
    The Health Center for Youth and Students observes World Mental Health Day by having an Open Day with a café where employees are ready for a chat and it is possible to take part in a World Day Quiz with a prize. More information. Organizer: Ås Municipality/Ås Health Center

  • Time 11-12:15 Yoga with Guro N. Stafseth, Eika Sports Center
    Give your own wellness some attention. During this yoga session we look at the connection between the physical and the mental. The session will include active movements, relaxation, breathing techniques and meditation. We will get the opportunity to be present for ourselves and explore how active breathing can help us find more peace. Free admission, but registration required due to limited space.   • Time 15-16 Digital Waffle Thursday – Podcast with Prorector for Education and Ås Health Center

  • Time 16 Everyone has mental health - how do you take care of yours? Lecture with Helene Seljenes Dalum (in Norwegian). Felles Auditoriet in Adamstuen and Zoom
    Helene Seljenes Dalum is a veterinarian and has a strong personal interest in mental health. Currently she is trying to secure financing for her NORVET project - a study which will survey veterinarians' mental health in Norway. Organizer: Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
  • Time 20-22:30 UKA Quiz. Aud Max and in the lobby
    UKA's weekly quiz! There is a prize for the winning team.

Friday, 9 October

Saturday, 10 October

  • Time 11-16 Gøy på landet – Storebrand (in front of Eika Sports Center)
    Gøy på landet (Norwegian TV show) is being brought back by UKA i Ås! Everyone is invited to a family day; local families with children, employees and of course students. We will recreate the country feeling with activities and animals which will bring all of Ås together. Organizer: UKA i Ås

  • Time 12-14 Ta sjansen at the duck pond
    At this event we challenge students to Ta Sjansen (Norwegian TV show about homemade water crafts)! The well known ramp as well as building materials will be placed on the pond, and get ready for a swim! Winning categories are: quickest completion, best water craft and the biggest fiasco.  If you do not participate in the competition, come and join in on the laughs. Organizer: UKA i Ås

Sunday, 11 October

  • Time 12 UKA Church Service in Aud Max (in Norwegian)
    The traditional church service where the collection goes to charity. It will be an enjoyable church service with entertainment and information about UKAhjelpa 2020 which is collecting funds to a project called "Green Jobs in Mali". Organizer: UKA i Ås
