NMBU observes World Mental Health Day - program

“There is no health without mental health.” – World Health Organization. In observation of World Mental Health Day, NMBU’s Learning Environment Committee (LMU) together with various stakeholders has planned a diverse program for the entire week. Our focus this year is how we use our time, and we encourage everyone to take time for themselves and with others during this week. Welcome!

Program Monday 7 october

  • 08:00 Happiest Apartment Contest, SiÅs
    • NMBU students who live in a collective on or off campus can participate. Do something social, enjoyable and drug-free together that includes everyone in the collective. Contest period: Weeks 41 and 42. Take a picture, write a short text and send to marit.raaf@sias.no. A prize will be awarded to the happiest and most inclusive collective. Organizer: SiÅs

  • Time 16-17:30 Campfire fun – light snacks, outside the Clock Building/SiT
    • Informal meeting place for students and staff. COme and have a chat with Rector Sjur Baardsen. The Health Station will also attend. Light snacks. Organizer: NMBU/SiT

  • Time 16-21 Open house Samfunnet
    • Samfunnet invites all students to an Open House with diverse activities in various locations throughout the building. Student organizations will open their doors for active and social gatherings, and we hope everyone can feel at home and find something they enjoy. In addition, the Health Station will be available for informal chats on just about anything if you would like someone to talk to. Organizer: Samfunnet
  • Time 20-21 Akershus Theatre – Play about mental health (in Norwegian), in Festsalen/Samfunnet
    • The performance will depict a young woman looking for the strength to live a life she does not wish to live. The play illustrates the imbalance between the real world and the woman’s distorted reality. How can one find the time and strength to help someone who does not wish to be helped? The play will be in Norwegian. Organizer: Samfunnet

Program Tuesday 8 october

  • Time 8-18 Table tennis, Eika Sport Center
    • Table tennis tables are available on Tuesday 8 am - 6 pm and Friday 8 am- 8 pm. If you lack an opponent, the staff at Eika Sports Center can be challenged! No registration necessary and it’s free. Organizer: SiÅs/Eika Sport Center 

  • Time 16-17:30 Campfire fun – light snacks, outside the Clock Building/SiT
    • Informal meeting place for students and staff. Come and meet the Director for Academic Affairs Ole-Jørgen Torp. The Health Station will attend. Light snacks. Organizer: NMBU/SiT
  • Time 18-19 Lecture by Leo Ajkic (in Norwegian), in Aud Max
    • Leo Ajkic was named the best male radio and television host in 2017, and more recently known for the documentary series “Flukt” and “Uro”. Leo sought refuge due to the civil war in Yugoslavia. NMBU hopes that Leo's history and his reflections on, among other things, inclusion and integration can help to shed light and importance on caring, talking, making time for each other and about being good role models.     • Try something new! Soccer-tennis is a hybrid between soccer and tennis. We are providing an instructor, and everyone can join. Join us alone or bring a friend. Registration at www.sias.no/idrett (free). Organizer: Eika Sport Center/SiÅs

  • Time 16-17 «Fearless» with Anja Hammerseng-Edin (in Norwegian), Fellesauditoriet, Adamstuen
    • Anja Hammerseng-Edin is a former top Norwegian handball player. She will inspire you to be brave and see all of the possibilities instead of the limitations! Lectures with Anja Hammerseng-Edin can be mentally engaging. She provides simple tips you can use before, during and after a presentation to reach your own personal goals. Organizer: NMBU/ VET Faculty
  • Time 16-17:30 Pep-talk and training session with Camilla Lorentzen (in Norwegian), Eika Sport Center
    • Camilla Lorentzen has many irons in the fire. She is not only a personal trainer, public speaker, author and postcaster, but is also responsible for the hashtag #fitnok. And she studied at NMBU! She is returning to a place she once called home to give us many good reasons why we are good enough as we are. She will also offer a training session for the body and soul. Registration (free), limited number of participants. Organizer: NMBU and Eika Sport Center/SiÅs.

  • Time 15-16 Waffle Thursday – How to recognice Mental illness (in English), at SiT in the Clock Building
    • This Waffle Thursday, the health station will have special offers for international students. Organizer: NMBU/SiT and the Health Station.

  • Time 17-20 Hike around Ås. Starts outside Eika Sport Center at 5 pm.
    • Would you like to learn more about hiking trails around Ås? Join NMBU Friluftsliv (outdoor recreation organization) for a hike in the local area. You will meet others who enjoy hiking, and there might be a coffee break along the way! Registration is not required, but dress according to the weather. More information. Organizer: NMBU Friluftsliv
  • Time 19-20 Lecture with Ragnhild Bang Nes – Everyday Happiness for Everyday People (in Norwegian), The Cinema in Ås
    • Ragnhild Band Nes is a psychologist and researcher on happiness and the quality of life. She will provide 5 simple tips that can contribute to increase your everyday happiness. Organizer: Ås Municipality 
  • Time 18-20.30 Try climbing in Eika with an instructor, Eika Sport Center
    • Our instructors are ready to assist you if you want to test your climbing skills. You don’t need any climbing experience. You can borrow climbing equipment. You can challenge a friend or yourself. No registration necessary and it’s free. Organizer: Eika Sport Center/SiÅs

    • This event will focus on the UN's sustainability goals. The event starts with appeals at Ås City Hall at 1800. The walk continues with a head or flashlight to NMBU and Vitenparken, where there will be exhibitions and activities in several of NMBU's buildings. More information (in Norwegian). Organizer: NMBU, Vitenparken and Ås municipality. 

Program Saturday 12 october

  • Time 10-16 SmakÅs – A food and technology festival (separate program)
    • SmakÅs is a food festival held in Ås with a special focus on technology and sustainable food production. There will be themed food markets on a trail spanning from the town hall in Ås to Vitenparken. In Aud Max, a stop along the trail, students will serve international dishes. More information (information in Norwegian). Organizer: Vitenparken, Samfunnet, NMBU, Nofima, Ås landbrukslag and Ås Municipality.   

  • Time 12-16 International food festival, Aud Max
    • In collaboration with SmakÅs we will be hosting a student led food festival in Aud Max. Here you can taste delicious dishes made by NMBU students from around the world! More information. Organizer: International Students Union
