Welcome as a new student at NMBU! The preliminary programme for the Introduction week (6 - 10 August) and Buddy week (11- 17 August) is below. Minor changes can occur, but you will informed of them. 

Introduction Programme for International Students 2018

Friday 3 August 

10:00 - 17:00     Student arrive: Pick-up service from bus or train station to campus. 

10:00 - 15:00
      Reuse at NMBU: Students can collect used items at the Follo Ren container located at Pentagon. Items have been previously owned by NMBU students. Items available may include kitchen tools, furniture, carpets, small electrical items, and much more.


Saturday 4 August 

10:00 - 17:00      Students arrive: Pick-up service from bus or train station to campus. 

10:00 - 15:00      Reuse at NMBU: Students can collect used items at the Follo Ren container located at Pentagon. Items have been previously owned by NMBU students. Items available may include kitchen tools, furniture, carpets, small electrical items, and much more.

Free Store by Globalis: Students can collect free items at the store located in the ABC Basement at Pentagon.

16:00 - 22:00       Outdoor Activities and Grillfest (Barebeque) arranged by ISU: Outdoor activities and sports at Storebrand from 16:00 and Grillfest outside ABC basement from 20:00.


Sunday 5 August

10:00 - 17:00      Students arrive: Pick-up service from bus or train station to campus.

13:00 - ??          Tour of Campus: Arranged by AU International Officer - Alicia Earnest. Meet at the roundabout on campus (nearest Eika Training Centre)

15:00?    Grillfest (Barbeque) arranged by UKA Inclusion Officer  - Andrea Holm:  Grillfest outside ABC basement immediately following the tour of campus.

Monday 6 August 

Primary Location for the day:  Building: Urbygningen (Clock Building). Building #51. Room: Festsalen 2nd floor

Students required to report to the Follo Police Station should have been assigned an appointment time. (Note: Students living in Oslo, should report to the police station in Oslo)

Wednesday 8 August

Exploration Day

Students are encouraged to become better acquainted with their new environment. Below are day trip suggestions which will give students a chance to experience Norwegian culture and become familiar with the public transportation system. To travel together in groups with a student tour guide, you can meet up at the indicated time and place below:

Tour of Oslo - meet in front of ABC at 09:00

Get to know the capital of your new home, with 3 of Norway’s finest internationals. We’ll explore downtown Oslo before venturing off to Vigelandsparken. Afterwards we’ll picnic and lunch. Then we are off to visit some of the local museums for those who are interested or you can break off and explore on your own. Transportation and museum entrances not included. 

Trip to Oslo + IKEA -meet in front of ABC at 09:00

Start the morning out visiting some of Oslo's major landmarks before taking the shuttle to Ikea. This group will start by joining the Oslo group yet later depart in order to have some shopping time for any home supplies you may need. Feel free to bring a reusable bag to carry your items back. Note that we will be taking public transportation so it may be difficult to carry back large items or a large quantity. 

Bus/Ferry to Oslo - Tour Guide not available for this trip. 

Trip to Drøbak - meet at the Universitetet i Ås bus stop (direction Drøbak) at 10:30

We will check out the idyllic Norwegian town Drøbak, go swimming at Badeparken/Parrstranda and have some ice cream. It’s one of the last weeks we have the chance to do this before the weather gets too cold! There is also a possibility to take the ferry (the ticket is 105 kr for a roundtrip) to explore the island with the historic Oscarsborg fortress. 

Hike Around Årungen - meet at the roundabout on campus at 10:00

This trip will be a hiking trip to the lake nearby. We will meet at the roundabout on campus. We will first walk through the wooded area behind campus and then out to the lake, where we will have a break before continuing to hike around the north side of the lake, and eventually back around to campus. The hike is around 10 kilometers, so wear good hiking shoes and bring some snacks!

Samfunnet invites new students to hang out, eat and learn how to become a member of the Student Society. The lounge is a great place to relax and meet people throughout the semester.

- Bring your sports gear and shoes, and get ready to exercise! Eika offers team sports, climbing wall, group training in hall and on bike,strength and fitness rooms for self-training, personal training,exercise guidance and dietary guidance.

Saturday 11 August

09:00 - 10:00   Fadderuke (buddy week) begins: Meet your fadder (buddy), faddergruppe (buddy group) and your fellow Norwegian students.

The Norwegian students will do their registrations this weekend, so if you have already registered, tell your buddy and plan with him/her when and where you can meet them in the afternoon for social activities.

10:30     Welcome service in "Ås Kirke" (Ås church)

Experience a traditional Lutheran service in the local church. All students from all religions are welcome!

18: 00 and 20:30   Outdoor movie night
There will be two showings of one film. It will be in English with Norwegian subtitles.
Bring a blanket and get comfortable.

12:45     Matriculation CeremonyThe ceremony is for all degree students admitted to the university for the first time, 3-year bachelor and 2-year master programmes.
