Iben Andersen, head of Student Information Office, wished every one of the new international students welcome and challenged them to say their names in Norwegian.
Approx. 180 students have arrived, and 75 on exchange will arrive later in August.
About the same amount of students applied to NMBU as last year, but this year many more accepted.
Most of the students are from European countries, and for the first time we can also welcome a student from Andorra.
Whitney Richardson from Washington, USA, has arrived Ås to study International Environmental Studies. She says:
"The financial aspects of studying at a Norwegian university is the main reason for my choice."
"Use your time her well, help each other and be social!." was one of encouragement from Pro-Rector for studies, Solve Sæbø, to the new international students.
Ghana is one of the nation with a large representation.
Cem Batu Büyükdegirmenci from Istabul, Turkey came to Ås 11 days before study start. He has already made friends with other international students that came early.
"We have formed a little group of people, maybe 10 -15 persons that do things together and travel around. The sea temperature in Drøbak was surprisingly good!"
"I wish to study a sustainable economy, an economic model where the global resources stay on earth."
