To ecologize economics or economize ecology?

This paper is an examination of the divorce between economics and ecology, and the implications of this separation in order to understand environmental crises and their possible solutions.   Gómez-Baggethun reviews the history of environmental concerns in economic thinking, emphasizing how economic thinking has become distanced from ecological considerations. He discusses the idea of presenting elements of ecological economics as a part of a strategy intended to bring the disciplines of ecology and economics closer together, to help to face the environmental crisis whilst acknowledging the need for radical transformations.

Keywords: Growth, crisis, market, environmentalism, development, limits.
