The role of Marine Protected Areas in the management of fisheries in developing countries is the theme of this new, open access book edited by Ian Bryceson and Julius Francis.

Bryceson & Francis: Marine Protected Areas in relation to Fisheries Management

In 2006, the Norwegian coastal steamer ‘Trollfjord’ made its way from Trondheim to Bergen, whilst onboard a seminar took place on the role of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in relation to the management of fisheries in developing countries. The papers presented at this seminar were developed into this book, on request of the Norwegian Fishery Forum for Development Cooperation, and with funding from Norad.

The book contains chapters by Noragric's Ian Bryceson and Noragric alumni Wahira Othman and Kjersti Thorkildsen, along with several international collaborators.

Read the book (open access):

Bryceson, Ian & Francis, Julius (eds.) Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in relation to Fisheries Management: Challenges and Experiences from Developing Countries. ISBN: 978-9987-9559-8-5, Zanzibar, Tanzania

The book is dedicated to Chandrika Sharma, one of the participants of the seminar that preceded the book and one of its contributors. Chandrika was one of the 239 people lost with Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 in 2014.
