This course is given in January block. Students deliever a home assignment 14 days after the teaching period ends.
Første gang: Studieår 2011-2012
The role of IPR in the innovation process. How to realize the commercial value of own research. The patent system and its institutions. Patentability. Search strategies, search profiles and Boolean algebra. Copyright, design and new media challenges. Trademark and branding. The effect of a patent, freedom to operate. IPR- strategies and combination of IPR-instruments. Presentation of cases. The role of TTO-offices and venture capitalists. Assignments.
The lectures at this course is partly given together with INN 310. In addition to the lectures there are separate workshps for INN 410.
The course is specially designed for ph.d. students and researchers who want to learn more about IPR-challenges in their own field of research.
-The objective of the course is to increase the competence about IPR and innovation among the participants. To train the participants to see the commercial value of own research and how different IPR-strategies can be used to secure the commercial value of the research. To give the participants skills in searching, identifying, reading and evaluation of patents, patent applications, trademark and branding, copyright and open innovation strategies.
-The course consists of lectures, exercises, self-study of literature and an home assignment.
-The teachers are available during course hours and 10 hours pr week during the work with the home assignment.
-Course material will be delivered at the start of the course.
The course is mainly designed for ph.d. students in technology and biology. Social science students may also take part in the course.
-Participants in the course should either be active ph.d. students or researchers.
Excercises and an home assignment.
The home assignment will be graded with pass/no pass.
-An external examiner is used to evaluate course content.
Normalized effort is 150 hours, of which 30 hours are organized activities, 80 hours are related to exercises/project work, and 40 hours for self-study
