About this course

The course addresses topics that are central to developing competence to promote good teaching and learning. After completing the course, participants should be able to facilitate student learning by assessing, selecting and justifying appropriate goals and content for their teaching programs, and finding methods that are appropriate in relation to this in the subject area they teach.

VU-PPUN300 will provide basic competence in university pedagogy (equivalent to PPUN400), by supplementing with a reflection note and a one-day seminar.

The candidate can explain

  • learning theories that are relevant to their teaching
  • relevant didactic questions and approaches within their subject
  • the principles that can be used in the planning of teaching
  • how the study program that one's teaching belongs to is built up how one as a technical / administrative employee can apply his / her competence in this principles
  • how to guide individual students and groups
  • current teaching methods and teaching principles, ranging from lecture to problem-based learning
  • how to analyze and describe work tasks and how to specify the skills needed to perform the tasks
  • different types of assesment
  • how study quality work and evaluation of teaching are organized at NMBU
  • NMBU's philosophy of learning and its theoretical and practical implications.

Skills

The candidate can

  • apply the above knowledge to increase their teaching in the individual session and over time with a view to promoting student learning
  • help develop the learning environment among students and staff
  • reflect on their teaching and develop it further
  • find subject material that can illuminate questions one encounters in the design and development of one's own teaching.

General competence

The candidate have

  • insight into ethical issues that can enroll in teaching and can express to implied which considerations must be taken into account
  • can communicate own development work orally and in writing
  • can communicate with other teachers involved in the current subject and study program on how the teaching should be organized, and in this context be able to point to relevant educational perspectives.
  • Lectures on central pedagogical principles, theories and concepts. Discussion among participants, in groups and plenums, to exchange experiences and acquire the substance of the topic. Exercises in presenting, demonstrating, instructing and guiding tasks. Develop programs for testing in own teaching. Writing a project paper on the basis of the measures in own teaching.
  • Guidance is given in exercises in the collections and during the writing of the project assignment. Participants work in writing groups to provide feedback on each other's teaching and written presentation of this
  • Participants must have teaching experience from the university / college.
  • Individual written assignment.

    Assessment expression is Pass / Fail.

  • An external examiner participates in the evaluation of a random selection of the written assignments.
  • Attend another participant's teaching and provide feedback on this.

    Have another participant visit as an observer in their own teaching and write a report based on the feedback.

    Participate in at least 80% of the teaching in the course.

  • Information about registration for the course is posted on NMBU's website, one semester before the start of a new course. At least 10 registered students are required to complete the course.
  • Spring parallel: A collection of 4 days and a collection of 3 days

    Autumn parallel: A collection of 3 days

    The teaching time consists of 15 hours of lectures, 20 hours of discussions and group assignments, 15 hours of practical exercises, 10 hours of preparation and presentation of measures in own teaching.
