About this course

Lectures: Introduction to methods for evaluating building in relation to natural and human elements in the surroundings. Introduction to how road systems, building and green areas can work together. Choice of building in relation to terrain, building customs and living functions. The use of plan and building laws to ensure quality in planning. The use of technical planning and field protection measures to ensure quality. In addition to this the students shall develop a concept using different principles of organizing houses. Seminar/discussion group: 1) A study of visual basic spatial components as volume, open spaces, slopes, etc. 2) About regulation planning. Field trip to assignment areas and to the Oslo area. Project work in groups: Plan for a condensed residential area. Individuell project: Plan for a small residential area. Project work in LAA214 will give students training in using data as project tools.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The students will understand how buildings and landscape influence each other, and methods to evaluate this.

They will know the tools used to ensure sustainable urban development, digital tools for urban planning.

They will know the role of the landscape architect and how it works in cooperation with other disciplines.

Skills

To choose analysis methods that describe the possibilities for sustainable urban development of an area.

To develop ideas how to integrate buildings in landscape.

To understand what elements provide qualities to urban sites.

To draw landscape plans taking care of building structures and landscape qualities.

To develop regulating and technical plans, knowing they are a means of ensuring qualities to the urban environment.

The students will train digital tools both in 2D and 3D.

General Competence

The students will understand the spatial relations, basic dimensions for the urban project, the importance of taking care of the natural and landscape qualities of the site.

They will train organising their work, participating in debates, working transversally with other fields and disciplines.

They will plan and develop a variety of projects showing profesional integrity and respect for others.

They will effectively comunicate their ideas in texts, orally and in form of drawings.
