Credits (ECTS):10

Course responsible:Muyiwa Samuel Adaramola

Campus / Online:Taught campus Ås

Teaching language:Engelsk

Course frequency:Annually.

Nominal workload:250 hours

Teaching and exam period:This course starts in Spring parallel. This course has teaching/evaluation in Spring parallel.

About this course

This course will teach the students how to carry out resource assessments for solar energy conversion systems as well as (specifically) teach them how to plan, design and predict the performance of solar PV systems. The course will address solar energy resources, solar module characteristics and components as well as design processes of different PV system applications (such as grid-connected and standalone systems). In addition, the students will be able to use available solar radiation and other meteorological data to estimate the potential and performance of PV systems and carry out their economic viability.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

After the completion of the course, students should be able:

  • Analyse solar energy resources potential for a given location.
  • Explain various applications of solar energy conversion systems in general and solar PV in particular.
  • Perform detailed design calculations of solar PV systems.
  • Evaluate the economic and technical viability of solar PV systems.
  • Apply method to determine the optimal fixed tilt angle solar collector for specific location.
  • Explain the effect of ambient conditions on solar PV performance.
  • Determine the capacity of different components of solar PV for a given application.

Skills

  • The student should be able to examine the technical and economic feasibility of solar PV energy projects.
  • The student should be able to develop models and tools solar for designing solar PV systems for different applications.
  • The student will learn to evaluate solar PV projects.

General competence

Student should be able to discuss issues related to planning, evaluation, and monitoring of energy systems projects, and able discuss these issues in context of national and international energy problems.
