About this course

The course introduces the academic field of Global Developmen Studies. Focus will be placed on developing interest and skills in further work in Global Development Studies in an interdisciplinary environment. Getting to know the Department and other students in the programme is emphasised. The course involves group work and use of skills in oral and written communication.

Learning outcome

Students will be introduced to current problems, themes and ideas in Global Development Studies. They will become aware of elements of the literature and examples of current research in the field. Students will strengthen experience and skills in group work and presentation, and become acquainted with the information system used at the University, particularly the learning platform Canvas. Students will get experience in formulating a concept note for research on a problem within the field. Students will get an understanding of what is expected of them as master students at NMBU. They will learn about NMBU libraries and the use of English as a language of study. After the course, student will be better prepared for the master programme in Global Development Studies.

  • An external examiner will approve the examination design.
  • 1. Attendance at lectures and other activities.

    2. Group work, including preparation of an oral and visual presentation in class and a written submission.

    3. Submission of a signed plagiarism declaration in Canvas.
