Would you play chess or poker without learning the rules of the game first? Working with Norwegians without understanding the Norwegian way may be quite like playing chess or poker without knowing the rules. Norwegian workplaces are driven by a set of rules which are very different from those in other western cultures, often leading to confusion and misunderstandings. This seminar will address these little known facts.

Target group

This course is suitable for all international employees who grew up outside Scandinavia, whether you have just arrived in Norway, or if you have been here for some time.

Build a bridge between cultures

Learn what is special about the Norwegian workplace culture

Become more confident about how to behave in Norway

Reduce misunderstandings and communication issues

 

Themes:  

Introduction and a quick glance at the Norwegian lifestyle

Major cultural traits of the Norwegian workplace culture

Examples from the workplace where the cultural differences may typically be an issue

Socializing (how to make friends in Norway, visiting Norwegians in their home and party culture)

 

Work methods:

Lecture and plenary group work

 

 
Time and place: 30.10.19, 11.30-15.30 at campus Ås. Bring your own lunch.  Coffee/tea will be served.
